Mayor Harry Sidhu
Harry Sidhu has served as mayor representing Anaheim at large since December 2018 with a leadership vision of the “City that Empowers the American Dream.”
Serving as mayor, Sidhu has successfully guided Anaheim through the challenge of our times, the coronavirus pandemic and economic crisis, and into Anaheim’s “new Golden Age.”
The city now is in strong recovery with revenue exceeding expectations and more than $10 billion in major investment planned in coming years, the most significant renewal since Anaheim’s original Golden Age of the 1950s and ’60s.
Under Sidhu, the city met the challenge of the pandemic by providing more than $70 million in community and business aid, administering more than 500,000 vaccine doses and providing more than 150,000 tests.
As mayor, Sidhu encourages a thriving business community and economic development that creates jobs and housing and that meets the needs of residents and neighborhoods as well as businesses and visitors.
Sidhu has set out a bold initiative to invest $250 million in Anaheim neighborhoods in coming years, with spending based directly on resident feedback. Continued growth at and around the city’s theme parks and sports venues is seen driving revenue for future neighborhood investment.
He is honored to be Anaheim’s first mayor of Indian heritage and its first immigrant mayor in modern times. He previously served on Anaheim’s City Council from 2004 to 2012, including as mayor pro tem from 2009 to 2011 and in 2012.
Sidhu currently represents Anaheim on the boards of directors of the Orange County Transit Authority and the Orange County Water District.
Born and raised in India, Sidhu came to the United States in 1974 with his family, settling in Philadelphia. He became a U.S. citizen in 1979.
Sidhu holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Philadelphia’s Drexel University. He came to Southern California in 1980 to work as an engineer for aerospace companies Rockwell International, General Dynamics and Hughes Aircraft.
After an extensive engineering career, Sidhu pursued his dream of starting his own small business, which began with a single restaurant. He is now a successful entrepreneur and owner of several Orange County restaurants.
Sidhu and his wife Gin have lived in Anaheim since 1994, where they raised their two children. His community involvement has included service as a board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim, an advisory board member of the Anaheim Family YMCA and as a member of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce and the Anaheim Small Business Chamber.
Sidhu also has coached youth soccer and is a supporter of the arts and arts education. He is a licensed professional engineer, licensed instrument rated general aviation and helicopter pilot and a real estate broker.
